If there is one thing that the coronavirus emergency has taught us, it is to become more and more familiar with smart working<\/em> and with the tools that technology makes available to us to shorten distances and bring our profession to bear in the best possible way.<\/p>\n

To do this, however, Cloud Providers are being put to the test. Thus, Forrester<\/strong> and GlobalData<\/strong>, leading research firms, have made public their assessments of the impact of the crisis on Cloud services.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

What are the initiatives undertaken by the Cloud giants?<\/h3>\n

The American market research company Forrester<\/em>, in a document published on March 12, put in black and white that Amazon Web Services <\/strong>has included the response to the pandemic in its resilience planning and scales regularly to handle peaks in demand, exactly as during Black Friday<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Pandemic response policies and procedures have been integrated into disaster recovery<\/em> planning. Measures have been taken to ensure ample capacity and continuity of service. Google Cloud<\/strong>, on the other hand, has set up an internal working group to plan and mitigate the commercial impacts arising from the Covid-19 emergency.<\/p>\n

Finally, Microsoft Azure <\/strong>has seen a 500 percent increase in meetings<\/em>, calls, and conferences on its “Teams” collaboration platform since January 31, when the West was progressively hit by the emergency. And in exactly the same period, it saw a 200 percent increase in the use of “Teams” on mobile devices.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

What does this mean?<\/h3>\n

As Forrester<\/strong> explains, while the long-term impact on people and the way they work in the future is not so clear, the assessment of the usefulness of Cloud Computing services<\/em> is.<\/p>\n

GlobalData<\/strong>, a London-based consulting and analysis firm, has emphasized the importance of the Cloud, especially for companies that have to operate or communicate online together with their employees.<\/p>\n

Global Data also pointed out that not only has the demand for Cloud Computing increased, but also for other IT solutions such as Edge Computing<\/strong> , i.e. a cloud-based processing system that allows you to reduce processing latency, with the ability to have real-time answers, and save bandwidth by sending information to the data center that has already been processed and is therefore smaller.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n

\u201cAs companies stop their activities in physical locations and, if they can, continue to work remotely, it is clear how important the Cloud is for the continuity of operations. Every company that has actively resisted digitalization is now confronted with a harsh reality.
